Coal Slime

The Coal Slime is an uncommon slime exclusive to the Ash Isle sub location of The Indigo Quarry. When fed a Dusty Hen, a coal slime will produce ash that blurs vision for a while. Coal slimes also turn hostile when coming in contact with any fire source, making them bite slimes and the rancher, break into coops and burn crops. This effect lasts for five in-game hours. The effect's time can be halved by splashing the slime with water.

Coal slimes are the product of the eruption of an ancient volcano in the Indigo Quarry. These slimes are composed of a mixture similar to lava dust, but more gooey. Coal slimes get their name from their pitch-black coloration, as well as their ability to produce ash when fed their prefered meal.

Rancher Risks:[]

Coal slimes, as stated above, will produce ash if fed their favorite food that blurs vision. Coal slimes also turn hostile when coming in contact with fire. These ignited blobs of ash act much like a Tarr; biting slimes (and the rancher), burning crops and breaking into coops to devour chickens.

And the moral of the story; never play with fire, especially when ranching coal slimes.

Plortonomics:[]

A coal plort can use for an excellent source of fuel for fireplaces, ovens or campfires as their structure is not much different from coals on Earth. Coal plorts can also be used to produce a variety of commercial products, ranging from shampoos and soap bars to steel production and cement manufacturing. Coal plorts can also be used to produce electricity, and are much more eco-friendly than normal coals, and thus are used more often.

Appearance[]

A coal slime is a black slime with red facial features. However, its appearance changes drastically when ignited. It will gain zig-zagging red stripes that connect to its eyes and mouth, and a large flame can be observed in its mouth.

Tips[]

Don't largo coal slimes with mosaic slimes, as a glint may land near the largo, making them become hostile.
To maximize profit, largo coal slimes with a fruit or veggie eating slime with a big plort value and an easy to produce favorite food, like quantum slimes or rad slimes.
This can also be used to avoid the production of ash by the largo(s).
Do not place ignited coal slimes in a corral full of normal coal slimes, as the ignited slime will burn the normal ones, and ignite them all.

Bugs[]

Holding an ignited coal largo on the vac-pack nozzle for 15 seconds results in getting the Once Bitten, Twice...Bitten achievement. This is the same for holding an ignited coal largo for 40 seconds, which results in getting the achivement That Can't Be Possible. This is because the ignited coal slime's base model was The Tarr, which goes the same for the Gold Tarr as well.
This also works for the Best of the Worst achievement, awarded for placing a Tarr on a #1 Slime Stage.

The Coal Slime's secret style; Volcanic, is found on a ledge near the Slime Sea on the Ash Isle.

Trivia[]

A coal slime becoming hostile when coming in contact with fire may be a loose reference to the Hopper, from The Binding Of Isaac games, which gains a bonus of health and coverage of distance by jumping into fire. The uses of coal plorts are almost identical to the uses of coal itself.
